The following is offered as a guide only. Please check with Centrelink before enrolling. You must be an Australian citizen and living in Australia to be eligible for these payments.
Education Entry Payment
You may be eligible for a one-off Education Entry Payment of $208 from Centrelink if you are receiving any of the following payments:
- Disability Support Pension
- Carer Payment
- Parenting Payment single
- Special Benefit if you’re a single principal carer and are not eligible for parenting payments.
You may get Education Entry Payment if you’ve been getting either of the following payments for the last 12 months:
- JobSeeker Payment, including if you transferred from another income support payment
- Parenting Payment partnered, including if you transferred from Parenting Payment single.
Your situation or the course you’re studying may mean you have to transfer to one of the following student payments:
- Youth Allowance for students
- ABSTUDY
- Austudy
You may get Education Entry Payment when you transfer if you’ve been getting one of the following payments for 12 months:
- an eligible payment with no time requirement
- an eligible payment with a 12 month requirement.
You’ll get Education Entry Payment once only at the start of your course.
Pensioner Education Supplement
You’ll get $62.40 a fortnight if you’re an approved student studying full time.
You’ll also get this amount if you’re an approved student studying at least a 50% full time course load.
You’ll get $32.20 a fortnight if you are studying between 25-50% of a full time load.
You may be eligible for Pensioner Education Supplement if you meet the study rules and get one of these payments:
- Carer Payment
- Disability Support Pension
- JobSeeker Payment as a single principal carer
- Parenting Payment single
- Special Benefit as a single parent.
Payments from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)
You may be eligible if you meet the study rules and get one of these from the DVA:
- Invalidity Service Pension
- Partner Service Pension and your partner gets an Invalidity Service Pension
- Veteran Payment
- Income Support Supplement
- Carer Service Pension.
You can also get the supplement if you have a dependent child and get one of these:
- Disability Compensation Payment including TPI
- Special Rate Disability Pension
- War Widow Pension or War Widower Pension
- Ongoing Permanent Impairment Payments
- Wholly Dependent Partner Payment.
Study rules
You meet the rules if you’re studying an approved course as a full time or part time student.
What full time or part time study is
You may study as a full time student or part time student. Part time study is at least 25% of a full time study load.
If you’re a part time student, you must meet one of the following to be eligible for a payment:
- you’re a single parent with a dependent child under 16
- you get Carer Payment
- you have disability, illness or injury that affects your ability to study full time.
